Slumdog Millionaire. worths an Oscar?

It's just so over-rated!!!

i'm not suggesting that it's a bad movie(not at all), it's pretty nice
but i don't really think it deserves 8 oscar awards (including Best Movie and Best Director of cox)and all that 'WOW!!!!!!!!! this movie is soooooooooooo GOOD!!!!' comments from everyone around the world (but sure there are still many that aren't like that?)

its intentions are surely good
but really too obvious...
in cantonese i'd say it's 太刻意
everything happens in an order...


it's touching, it's thought-provoking
it allows us to know the poverty and social problem in India (and the rest of the world)
think again, re-value our own life styles and shows us how much better we are than the less fortunates
but there are many more movies that present the same ideas (in a better way?)
(and maybe i have never been upsetted because i'm not rich, i'm not living a luxurious life or blaming for not having enough money to buy stuff so... loooool)

and other than that?





storyline first of all.
yes, a really creative manner to present the life journey of an Indian boy living under poverty by getting him in the 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' game show, answering questions that even high-educated people might not know

but then
isn't everything too predictable?

'Jamal is one question away from winning 20 million rupees.
How did he do it?'
i'd definitely answer 'B. He's lucky.'
in a very unrealistic way...
so may be it would also be 'A. He cheated.'

remove the unrealistic thing, this movie is still so (i can't find the exact word in english...) wot we called in cantonese is '老土'
yeayea by wot he can answer and wot he can't (like the question about the national flag/stuff), it shows that people like Jamal (the poor and neglected) don't even know wot is on / the meaning of the national flag... because they just didn't receice proper education and stuff...
but then do you really have to be so precise that every questions need to have those cliche meanings??
it's just a bit too much for me

i enjoyed the first half part of the movie very much, but it gets worse...
the ending is screwing things up (by 'ending' i don't mean the dance, but the plot's ending)

it ends for the sake of ending

i thought i could type out everything i wanna say this evening, but well... 9am-1pm this morning we were at school for orchestra rehearsal, and 9am-5pm tomorrow... so i guess i better stop here for now... only that i'd quote wot i found on the net and wot i agree with

one more thing... the love between Jamal and Latika just isn't compelling enough... and more in-depth description of their time together is certainly needed... you either give that up, or you present it the best you can, don't leave it half way please...

綜觀成套戲，前半好睇過後半，原因大概如有網友寫到套戲太過要討好觀眾(he's suggesting that the movie is kind of commercial, always trying to please/satisfy the movie goers, and i really agree with that, although it's low-budget, it's still so commercialize, how sarcastic)，搞到後半未能承接上半的基礎繼續發展，劇情冇新意與驚喜，頗有種無以為繼的感覺，尤其結尾行貨，設計陳腐，對白俗套，我覺得係最大敗筆。另外既然此片以命運為題材，其主軸 – 男女主角相愛是命 (written)的描寫似乎太過則重於男方而忽略於女方的想法，搞到結尾有點兀突，因為一直以來都好像是男主角一廂情願，女主角報恩的心理大於愛他。還有一點，男主角哥哥作為出淤泥而不染的主角的反面，其改變有點太突然，或者多一點描述會更好。"

"橫掃金球,奧斯卡各項大獎.....本來對《一百萬零一夜》既要求自然要高d...但看畢此片...發覺就算以平常心看待,它亦不見得是完美...當然它無可否定地是一部出色的電影.... 問題究竟出於甚麼地方呢???甚麼令它扣分呢??? 大概就是一切合乎情理之中.....缺乏意料之外...............過於計算,非常穩陣...我敢說,9成以上的觀眾都會喜歡...但由於太過"顧及"大多觀眾的需要....因此顯得有點綁手綁腳.....情況與《奇幻逆緣》有點類似.......基本上單看故事大鋼已知道會是一套好戲.... 故事就是窮小子參加百萬富翁...學識不多但贏得最高獎金...自不然會令人覺得作弊云云.... 而整套戲就是圍繞主角為何能夠答中所有問題...由他的成長故事說起,一點一滴還他一個清白.... 成長當中當然有貧窮,失去親人,愛人,被出賣等等劇情......令人感動的場景當然有,而且不少...但由於整套都是以類似"方式"進行...因此到中後段有點乏力.....作者不想將主角神化/不想將主角的遊戲過程輕易化/不想將主角的成長點滴"神奇化".......因此遊戲過程中,一些所謂5歲小孩也應該懂的問題,他卻不懂...主持人"提示"他,他又不受引誘等......當然這使主角更立體更真實....但由於太多的"命中注定".....太"戲劇化".....當兩小時如一...未必有點"搵戲黎做"...當然這種手法絕對能討好絕大多數觀眾... "

watchable definitely.
u'd learn a lot, too much that i just can't type them all here (and i guess 'meanings' are supposed to be found/understood by yourselves, cox everybody feels different things in different ways, only wot touches you is wot you learn)
but then
the movie's just not THAT great
(in terms of educational level it's great heheeee)

and last thing i'd like to say is...
haha... try not to hear/ read critics/ reviews before watching a movie
they also could screw things up...
